Set up in three steps.

Use the official source for the extension, then take a moment to secure your recovery phrase.

01

Download from an official source

Go to Coinbase Wallet’s official download page and follow its link to the browser extension store. Check the publisher and URL before installing. Never use a sponsored result or an unsolicited link.

Open official download page
02

Create a wallet or import yours

Open the extension and choose the option that fits. If you’re creating a new wallet, follow the prompts on your device. Never share your recovery phrase with anyone—not even someone claiming to be support.

Coinbase support will never ask for your recovery phrase.
03

Pin the extension and explore

Use your browser’s extensions menu to pin the wallet for easy access. Before connecting to a site, check the domain carefully and review every permission request before you approve it.

Good habits.
Stronger security.

A self-custody wallet gives you control—and puts responsibility for your recovery phrase in your hands. Keep these essentials close.

01

Guard your recovery phrase

Write it down and keep it somewhere private and secure. Never share it, type it into a website, or save it in a screenshot or cloud note.

02

Pause before approving

Read transaction details and connection prompts carefully. If something feels unexpected, reject it and verify the request through a trusted channel.

03

Check every address

Scammers copy familiar websites and support accounts. Confirm the domain yourself—don’t rely on links in DMs, emails, or search ads.

A FEW QUICK ANSWERS 03 / 03

Good to know.

New to self-custody? Start with these.

Is Coinbase Wallet the same as my Coinbase account?

No. Coinbase Wallet is a self-custody wallet, separate from a Coinbase account. You control access to a self-custody wallet and are responsible for keeping its recovery phrase safe. Features and availability can vary by region.

What happens if I lose my recovery phrase?

A recovery phrase may be the only way to restore access to a self-custody wallet. Keep it private and stored securely offline. Coinbase cannot retrieve a phrase for you, so make sure you understand the recovery options shown in the official app.

Does installing the extension cost anything?

Check the official download page for current details. Network transactions may have fees, and digital assets can be volatile. Review the details of any transaction before confirming it.

Where can I get help with my wallet?

Use Coinbase’s official Wallet help center. Never trust unsolicited support messages, and never share your recovery phrase, password, or security codes with anyone.
